AW '11

Its that time of year. New York Fashion week was last week. Which had amazing coverage. It made me miss New York even more. But, this past Friday was the start of London Fashion Week A/W 2011. Can I just say, amazing?! I was able to see Christopher Beales (head cutter of Alexander McQueen...love) and his exhibition of his A/W '11 collection. I also found time to see the Belle Savauge show. I wanted to share a link with you- Burberry A/W 2011. THey played this fashion show on a huge screen in Picadilly Circus today for everyone to see. It is quite beautiful. Its sums up every reason why I love fashion. Amazing work!

Exciting news! Definitely something I needed to add to ALL THINGS PRETTY. As many of you know, I am interning here in London. Bright Light has taught me how to work in publicity in another country- London. Many feel that the internship can be lame, and back tracking compared to our experiences we've many of us have had in New York. I agree, don't get me wrong, some days I would like to stop boxing up samples and actually work with editors and stylists just like my time at Benetton. However, for me, I have learned a lot... a little... but a lot. Patience and hard work pays off eventually. Like any experiences of hard work and facing uncomfortable challenges... theres nothing more rewarding than seeing YOUR work on a publication. Whether its you're selected samples you sent to GLAMOUR or LOOK, or Magazine clippings posted on a company's website, or YOUR PRESS RELEASES on the company's BLOG!

Check out a few of my press releases on our blog at my internship.

"Real life is a funny thing, you know. In real life, saying the right thing at the right moment is beyond crucial. So crucial, in fact, that most of us start to hesitate, for dear of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. But lately what I've begun to dear more than that is letting the moment pass without saying anything."

Berlin

This past weekend was spent in Germany with one of my good friends Nick. It was quite the experience trying to get to Heathrow airport... but I would rather not dwell. Longest story super short- not one person at the airport knew what they were talking about, we missed our flight and I lost my cell-phone. Our trip could only get better! Of course... it did.

We stayed at St. Christopher's hostel and it was better than any 2-star international hotel; bar, restaurant, own living room, kitchen, bathroom... not your average hostel. Traveling around on the U-bahn was simple, which is a nice relief. We met up with Nick's family friend Robert who showed us a great time. He showed us great night life, amazing vintage shops and parts of the city tourist never see. Each part of everyday was like living in another persons shoes which was nice. Now more than ever am I determined to learn some new languages and German is on the top of that list. I was able to figure out a lot of how words are used and pronounced. Which was very satisfying. I missed walking around trying to pronoune new words and speaking with fluent locals. We also visited all the historical sights and ate at such amazing restaurants. Overall, I enjoyed each part of our trip, and could not let go of my camera. My favorite photos are of the Berlin Wall East Side Gallery(which you can probably tell from the collection of pictures I posted and on my facebook page). Its amazing how miles of a wall that divided so many people, painted with each artists interpretations of life, was breathtaking. Each piece had its own story. It was even more  interesting to see what other visitors have left on the walls as well. Berlin, is a beautiful, enchanting city. Quiet, romantic, and fun. The Berliners and others that lived there were all so polite, nice, and friendly. As an added bonus to the cheap... lots of sun.

change.

Germany is one of the many places I've wanted to see. Mainly because of their history. If you can't remember from history (social studies) in middle or high school, go ahead an use a internet search engine or encyclopedia. I am one to dislike change. If you've read previous blog posts of mine, I talk about it a lot: how it hurts, how its confusing and how it determines so much for you. But, we live it everyday and its always for the better. There is almost always, something or a bunch of things that will tear you down. Setting you back and back to square one. You're thinking, "this is not fair," or "I'm happy the way things were." However, if you haven't noticed, there is also so much good that comes along, more to out number it whether you notice those little things or not. Embrace change, evening if you're still learning how to. Like me, if I could have it my way all the time, a lot of things I would not change. But then I think about how far I've come, to the person that I am today and the people and places that are in my life, I am more appreciative of change. Like the city of Berlin, the locals are the way they are simply because they embrace change. Fallen, but together as a country.. what a pleasant city to live in. Thank you Germany for reminding me even more that change is inevitable and that its not always bad. We can only accept the things that come our way, and then its on to the next one.

From London to Berlin.
I love Germany.

simon

This past week I found out a life was lost. This may not come of as "pleasant" or "pretty" but I wanted to tell you about him. He was caring, loving, protective, grateful, smart, strong, and happy. His life was saved by six amazing people. They took him in when he needed it the most and ever since then, he couldn't have been happier. I was told he had cancer for about two months now, I wish there was something I could do, even if its too late. So instead I wrote this little bit for him. He deserves the world like anyone... I am so glad he had a second chance and a great life. He always had and always will have a place in my heart.

Rest Peacfully

Do or don't

Two weekends ago we ventured out to at Portobello Road located in Notting Hill. Portobello Road has a variety of antique and vintage shops also little restaurants and a cute neighborhood. It was amazing. I say that a lot but it really is! Compared to Camden Market, which I felt was similar to Canal St. in New York, Portobello Road was like Greenwich Village or Soho, with a hampton village twist. This was also the location for Notting Hill, a film that came out in 1999. We had lunch at a really good pizza shop then headed home. Today we spent the whole day visiting Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Bath. Breathtaking. Surreal. Epic. Wild. Definitely won't forget any minute of my first experience outside of Central London. I kept (or keep) saying was "Wow, we've actually made it. We are living the dream." Which is very true, however its not over yet. But (theres always a but)  even though I got to see such beautiful places, everyday I think about home, it makes me sad because I wish everyone can see these places. Some people may live their entire lives and never see such historical, amazing, stunning places. It makes me sad. I also kept saying, "I wish my parents could see this, I hope they come." I meant that, and I mean it still... for everyone. Being here without my family makes me miss them even more, and just home in general (but not home sick, yet) because like me, most of us spend our whole lives in one place, living life and re-living it. You make memories with all the same people because you love them and thats what we do. So doing it alone and with a few friends you're just getting to know gets rough. Regardless, money or time... nothing should hold any person back. Not one person, not one job, pet, boyfriend, girlfriend, nothing should hold anyone back from traveling or just living their dream. Travelling for one, maybe its not for everyone, but seriously?? Who doesn't want to see the Eiffel Tower or The London Eye? Often times I think about some of my friends or old friends... will they ever get to come and see the world? Do they want to? Do or don't, I wish them the opportunity.  Life changing... we have to live with it.
